For many years I was thankful that I finally found my Purpose again. Recently I’ve struggled holding onto my Purpose, trying to do my job at the highest level without Willie. I now need to preserve this vocation with Willie.
What do you do when your Purpose goes away?
I have lost my Purpose a few times in life.
Discharging from the Marine Corps,
Then coming back from war,
And one last time from the Army Reserve.
It took me years, from selling insurance,
Building roofs, home remodeling to
Prison Guard and mail carrier
Before finding my Purpose again.
Then the call came, “You got the position”.
Not knowing one damn thing about how to do my job,
I dove in head first.
Day in, day out…I put in the work.
Many would say I go above and beyond.
then I realized one day I had found my Purpose again!
Every day was not good; some were damn horrible.
I would have to remind myself why I was here.
Now after being recognized for all the hard work I’ve done,
That Purpose is going away once again.
No questions asked…no plan told.
You thought I would continue to give you my all.
How wrong you are!
When I’m gone, you will realize all the work I have done;
Receive letters telling you how wrong you were;
And the morale will hit the floor.
This time though, I’m keeping my Purpose.
I won’t let you take that away.
It may be in a different place, with new people,
But most of all, I will be respected
