My assimilation into society after Iraq proved to be not only difficult and challenging, but strange and lonely. It’s taken me many years to define “home”!
The word “home”……..
What does it mean to me?
It’s where I feel warm,
Not because the heat is on,
But from the love I feel from my family.
It’s where I can be myself and not feel judged.
It’s where I feel safe
Even after a nightmare or panic attack.
It’s being next to the ones I love!
“Home” to me is anywhere I’m surrounded
By those who love me
Feeling safe no matter the circumstance.
